Character Limits for 13 Social Platforms (2026)

The character limit, threading behaviour, video cap and image count for every platform Echowide cross-posts to. X is the tightest at 280 characters, and 5 of the 13 can hold a real thread when a post does not fit.

Every figure on this page is read at build time from the same file the splitter and the rules engine read, so it cannot drift from what the product actually enforces. Limits last verified 27 August 2026.

A dash means we have not verified a figure for that platform, so nothing is enforced and the platform’s own refusal is what the delivery ledger prints. Filling those cells with a guess is how a reference page becomes wrong quietly. Verified 27 August 2026.

How to read it

The tightest destination is the one that decides

When one post goes to several platforms at once, each destination is fitted separately. A 280-character post is a single post on X and comfortably inside the limit everywhere roomier, so the platform with the smallest number is the one that decides whether you are writing a post or a thread.

Where a destination has real threads, a longer post becomes a native chain, split at a paragraph, then a line, then a sentence — never inside a word, and never inside a URL. Where it does not, the post stops with its character count recorded rather than being cut in half. 5 of the 13 platforms here can hold a thread.

Media has its own ceilings, and on the video platforms they stop more posts than text does. The shortest published cap here is Twitch at 1 minute, and an over-length video is stopped before the upload begins rather than failing part-way through it. 8 of the 13 platforms publish no image count we have verified, so those cells stay empty and no adapter enforces a number there.

These limits, applied to a real pair

Each guide takes one origin and one destination and says what travels between them, what stops, and how long it takes.
